Assessment Summit: June 25th -26th

Ensuring An Aligned Curriculum

Graduate Credit Syllabus - Lindenwood University

Make plans now to join us in June at our first-ever SMCAA Assessment Summit as we wrap up our year of learning about assessments. To truly impact student learning, we must have alignment between our written, our taught, and our assessed curriculum. Our taught curriculum is the written curriculum in action. It is the embodiment of the knowledge, concepts, skills, and actions of student learning. These two components are not enough, though. How do we ensure that our written and taught curriculum are truly helping move students forward to student mastery? The answer: having a solid assessed curriculum. The assessed curriculum completes the trifecta alignment of curriculum by helping teachers be aware of what students are learning and what can be done in the next steps of the learning process.

Beginning with a “birds-eye” view we will look at what it means to have a solid district assessment focus. We will review different types of assessments and how to ensure our District Assessment Plans, and the assessments we give, are meeting the needs of our students. From here, we will slowly begin drilling down to creating meaningful and high-quality assessments that we can use to gauge true student mastery. A key component of assessments are our students, so an assessment summit would not be complete without looking at the human aspect and how we can begin developing self-assessed learners and how to share results in a way that students can use to create their own learning goals.

This summer Summit is great for classroom teachers, curriculum directors, instructional coaches, and district leadership as a solid assessment system involves everyone.
