New Curriculum Directors Cohort

What does it mean to be a Curriculum Director? What am I supposed to be doing? Who can I turn to with questions? Taking on a new role can be a daunting task, and often we find ourselves with more questions than answers. If you are new to the Curriculum Director role or have found curriculum work to be added to your slate of duties, come join the SMCAA staff and fellow curriculum newbies as we embark on a journey of exploring the role and world of curriculum.

This year-long event will consist of two 1-on-1 meetings done at the beginning and end of the school year and monthly GoTo meetings.  The monthly meetings will be recorded and made available for all cohort members should you not be able to attend one of the monthly meetings.

Curriculum Directors Level II Cohort:

Instructional Leadership Focus -- New for 2023!

So you’ve been in the role of Curriculum Director for a year or two now; or you’ve been the main person overseeing curriculum even without the “title.” You’ve got the basics down (mostly), and now you are ready to go deeper into what the role means. Depending on your role, you may be an evaluator, or you may just be in a position of influence. Regardless of your role, though, there is no denying that you are an instructional leader.

During this cohort, participants will engage in a year-long book study, using Fisher, Frey, Lassiter and Smith’s book “How Leadership Works: A Playbook for Instructional Leaders.” You will need to purchase this book (available through Amazon or Corwin at www.corwin.com) on your own in order to follow along during the monthly meetings. Each month we will review and discuss a different chapter in the book, as well as go over timely updates from DESE and SMCAA.

For additional information on this cohort, please feel free to contact Al Richardson at arichardson@smcaa.org
