DESE 1-Day Trainings in Science

Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education offers a free one-day professional development designed to assist in systematically integrating reading and writing in science.

The PD will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with an hour for lunch.  Currently, we have three locations and times.  The PD is the same at each location.

A brief agenda
1. Three-dimensional learning and Gather-Reason-Communicate Lesson framework.
2. Integrating reading in science lessons beyond just reading the textbook.
3. Integrating evidence-based writing in science lessons to deepen student understanding.

The dates and locations:

  • May 31st - Springfield Conservation Nature Center (Located in southeast Springfield just west of Highway 65 off the James River Freeway (Highway 60). Follow brown direction signs to the center.)
  • June 7th - Ignite Room, Jackson Senior High School Jackson, MO
  • June 9th - Northwest Regional Office conference room, Missouri Western State University 701 James McCarthy Dr, St Joseph, MO 64507
